How-to Guide: First Friendsmas
Since approaching our late twenties, my friends and I make every effort to spend time with each other. Whether it’s our annual girls’ trip or lunch dates, we try to cherish moments together and celebrate our lives. Last year, my friends and I celebrated our first Friendsgiving which was a huge success. This year we attempted to do so again, but our schedules would not allow a date in November. After much deliberation, we decided on a date in December but it’s too late to call it Friendsgiving and so I took it upon myself to declare this year’s holiday gathering as “Friendsmas!”
This was our first Friendsmas (as the title states), so I thought it would nice to help others figure out how to plan the best party for their besties. Mind you, the party was not hosted by me, but I’m glad that the decorations that I decided to bring in addition to the gifts provided matched my best friends’ already decorated home. For anyone interested in planning their first Friendsmas (or holiday party), these are my recommendations:
Decide on a theme: for me, our theme was Christmas lights and Christmas trees. You can’t go wrong with any holiday theme, but my sister found some great items at Target that really made our party festive and fun (just like us).
Fringe backdrops (red & green)
light bulb small plates
Party lights garland
Christmas tree table decor
Christmas dinnerware plates
Balloon garland
Choose a location: we chose one of our best friends’ house, but any open area or building will do depending on the number of guests and activities you anticipate.
Decide your wardrobe: some of us matched. If you’re looking for festive options (PJs or sweaters), I recommend Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, or JCPenny for matching sets.
Decide your menu: our menu consisted of pizza (choose your toppings), wings, cheeseburger dip, drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), and cookies. *Disclaimer: if you choose to drink, know your limit, spend the night (if at someone’s home), or have a designated driver*
For alcoholic drinks with holiday theme, I recommend spiked eggnog, Bailey’s or Rum Chata.
Choose an awesome playlist.
Consider bringing gifts: this was not an expectation, but I found some great gifts from Target including hot chocolate bomb, a box of hot chocolate, and festive jugs.
Play games or just enjoy each other’s company. We took selfies, created a TikTok dance, watched a movie, and baked cookies.
