A Week in Mineral Bluff, GA

I’ve wanted to go to the mountains for a while now and even though it’s summertime, my family and I thought, “Why not go now?”

Based on my previous blog, I had no idea what to wear to the cabins in the summertime since it’s mostly a fall/winter destination, but I think that I managed pretty well with the wardrobe that I selected.

On the first day, my family and I traveled from city life in South Carolina to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. It was about a four-hour ride. We through the mountains and passed all toll roads, although I think the tolls would have been better. The elevation made everyone’s ears pop and we were traveling with two children so you can imagine the discomfort.

The cabin that we stayed in was called Cinnamon Bear Lodge. It’s a million-dollar, three-story cabin that we were blessed to stay in. It was actually a free upgrade because the original cabin that we booked for our stay was sold so the property managers offered us this one and it is well worth the cost.

Our cabin was equipped with a jacuzzi, full bar, and loads of trinkets. In the beginning, all the hidden bears and moose freaked Libby (my niece) out but after an hour, she was comfortable. I think that my favorite part about the house was the deck. Every floor had its own deck or balcony and the view was gorgeous. Even when it rained, we felt a sense of calm throughout the cabin.

The whole week was about relaxing and that’s exactly what I did with exception to waking up in the morning to cook breakfast and taking time in the afternoon to cook dinner. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve ever been on and the food was to die for. Each day was something different; for breakfast, we’d have waffles or pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs and grits. On our last night, we had surf n’ turf and if you know me, then you know that seafood is my jam! That night we had mussels, shrimp, crawfish, corn, steak and mashed potatoes. It was delicious!

There was only one day during our stay where it rained, but it honestly didn’t bother us. the rain was relaxing to watch through our high windows and even better on the balcony until thunder struck. Some of us slept through it, while others like myself, took a long bath.

On the last day, my family and I visited Mercier Orchards, a small farm that turned into a mega orchard over the years, supplying sweet potatoes, blueberries, peaches, and apples to locals and big businesses. It’s a huge orchard, we didn’t have time to walk the property, but we enjoyed their breakfast. I highly recommend their apple French toast or their fluffy pancake.

I was so sad to end this vacation. It’s one that I can truly say that I enjoyed myself, but there will be other opportunities in the future and I can’t wait to share with you my next adventure!
